Typing calculators

Measure, understand, practise

Use calculators as a bridge to real practice

These tools are designed for quick calculations when you already know a character count, word count, elapsed time, or error count. For a real measured result, use the built-in typing tests where the tutor records timing and errors automatically.

The companion guides explain keyboard layouts and correct finger responsibility so the numbers are connected to better technique rather than treated as isolated scores.

PRACTICAL GUIDE

Choose the tool that answers your question

Use the WPM calculator for a standardized words-per-minute rate from characters and time. Use CPM when character throughput is the clearer measure, especially in short drills. Use the accuracy calculator when you know attempted keys and errors. The combined typing-speed calculator handles either words or characters and provides a rough completion-time estimate. Each calculator explains its own formula and limitations.

Testing keys is different from typing text

The keyboard tester highlights events from a physical keyboard. It is useful when checking a suspicious key or learning the difference between left and right modifiers. The online keyboard is a separate mouse/touch editor: click its keys, compose a short message, then copy or download it. It cannot operate other apps or replace your system keyboard across the computer.

Make the numbers useful

A calculator works from the values you enter; it does not observe a typing session. Keep the counting method and duration consistent, and record accuracy as well as speed. If you need a measured attempt, open Typing Tests. If you want instruction, start with the typing course or the Guides collection. A certificate requires its own qualifying process, not a manually entered calculator result.
