Preserve accuracy near your speed limit
The 90 WPM test helps fluent typists see where added speed begins to cost control. Small mistakes and repeated corrections can reduce the practical value of a fast Gross WPM number.
90 WPM is about 450 scoring characters per minute, or 5,400 scoring words per hour at a constant pace with no breaks. That arithmetic is not a prediction of an hour’s real work.

What 90 WPM looks like over time
A standard scoring word contains five characters. This table shows the nominal pace at 90 WPM; natural words have different lengths. It is an illustration, not a count of work you will finish.
| Duration | Scoring words | Characters at this pace |
|---|---|---|
| 1 minute | 90 | 450 |
| 3 minutes | 270 | 1,350 |
| 5 minutes | 450 | 2,250 |
| 10 minutes | 900 | 4,500 |
How this test scores your goal
The engine rounds Gross WPM from attempted characters divided by five and elapsed minutes. It rounds accuracy from correct characters divided by attempts, then rounds Gross WPM multiplied by accuracy to produce Net WPM. The goal uses that displayed Net WPM and accuracy. Scoring and correction rules differ between providers, so compare like-for-like results.
For example, 60 Gross WPM at 95% accuracy gives 57 Net WPM. Speed alone does not complete the goal, and ending a timed attempt early does not complete it either.

Is 90 WPM good?
A useful result depends on your task, text difficulty, accuracy and duration. Use 90 WPM as a personal practice goal, then compare it with any specific class or job requirement. There is no universal passing speed for every role.
How do I pass this 90 WPM goal test?
