Find keys with confidence

At 10 WPM, your first useful milestone is finding letters calmly and making fewer uncertain reaches. A small target can help you build confidence without trying to copy an experienced typist’s pace.

10 WPM means a scoring pace of about 50 characters per minute. It does not mean a ten-minute test or a ten-key numeric test.

How this test scores your goal

The engine rounds Gross WPM from attempted characters divided by five and elapsed minutes. It rounds accuracy from correct characters divided by attempts, then rounds Gross WPM multiplied by accuracy to produce Net WPM. The goal uses that displayed Net WPM and accuracy. Scoring and correction rules differ between providers, so compare like-for-like results.

For example, 60 Gross WPM at 95% accuracy gives 57 Net WPM. Speed alone does not complete the goal, and ending a timed attempt early does not complete it either.

10 WPM typing test questions

What does 10 WPM mean?

10 WPM means a scoring pace of about 50 characters per minute. It does not mean a ten-minute test or a ten-key numeric test.

Is 10 WPM good?

A useful result depends on your task, text difficulty, accuracy and duration. Use 10 WPM as a personal practice goal, then compare it with any specific class or job requirement. There is no universal passing speed for every role.

How do I pass this 10 WPM goal test?

Finish your selected 1, 3, 5 or 10-minute test, reach at least 10 displayed Net WPM and meet the selected accuracy goal. The default is five minutes and 95% accuracy. Ending early does not complete the goal.

Can I take the 10 WPM test for 10 minutes?

Yes. Choose 10 minutes before starting. The speed goal stays the same; you type for longer. Compare ten-minute results with other ten-minute results.

Does this page award a typing certificate?

Reaching this goal is a practice result, not a verified certificate award. Use the dedicated certificate test and its separate eligibility rules for a typing certificate.

Is this an English, shorthand or numeric test?

This page uses English paragraph typing on a physical or supported on-screen keyboard. It does not measure shorthand dictation, Hindi or Marathi typing, or ten-key numeric entry. Those tasks need their own content and scoring.

Can I practise without an account?

Yes. Guest attempts use this browser’s existing test history. Signed-in learning uses the site’s existing automatic sync when enabled for your account. You can use the existing export/import controls to back up local learning data.
