A calm first checkpoint

This 15-second test is for a learner who has just met the keyboard. It gives a quick snapshot of accurate key presses without requiring a long session; one attempt alone does not measure overall typing ability.

Watch the highlighted character on screen, press it gently, and focus on the next key rather than racing the clock. The result can help you decide whether to repeat a lesson or try a longer test.

Because this test lasts less than one minute, it does not meet the minimum duration used by the Kids Beginner Typist or Accuracy Champion certificates.

Try this practice routine

  1. Practise the home-row keys from a Kids lesson first.
  2. Take the short test once, then observe errors as well as WPM.
  3. Repeat after a break, or try the 30-second test for a longer checkpoint.
