Typing Without a Timer: Accuracy-First Untimed Practice
Typing without a timer removes countdown pressure. Use untimed mode to focus on clean key movement, then switch to timed tests when you want a comparable WPM result.
You already have two untimed options
TypingTutor.Online already provides an Untimed Typing Test and an Untimed setting inside the Custom Typing Test Studio. There is no need for another duplicate tool.
Why remove the countdown?
A timer is useful for measurement, but it can make some learners rush. Untimed practice lets you finish the passage at your own pace while elapsed time can still be used to calculate WPM afterward.
A good untimed routine
Begin slowly, keep accuracy high, and increase pace only when difficult transitions remain controlled. Use custom text if you want to practise material from study or work, or custom keys when a small group of letters causes problems.
When to return to timed tests
Use a 1-minute test for quick checks and a 5-minute test when you want a more sustained result. Untimed practice improves the movement; timed tests help compare performance over time.
Untimed practice is learning; timed testing is measurement
A useful way to combine both is to practise without a countdown for several minutes, then take one short timed test at the end. The untimed portion lets you slow down for difficult transitions. The timed portion gives you a repeatable benchmark that can be compared with later sessions.
If you are preparing for a job, exam, or certificate, do not avoid timers forever. Eventually practise the duration and rules that matter for the target test. For general learning, however, an untimed session can be a calmer place to build accuracy before speed pressure is introduced.
The same Studio can also remove capital letters for lowercase-only typing, disable Backspace for strict first-pass practice, remove punctuation or commas, and turn the on-screen keyboard or finger guidance off.
Frequently asked questions
Is typing without a timer the same as no time tracking?
Not necessarily. TypingTutor.Online can count elapsed time for WPM without using a countdown that forces the session to stop.
Can I paste my own text in untimed practice?
Yes. The Custom Typing Test Studio and custom-text features let you use your own passage.
