Use Shift without losing home-row position
This test introduces a practical skill used in names and sentence beginnings: making a capital letter while keeping good finger placement. The hand not pressing the letter can usually hold Shift.
For example, for a capital A, the right little finger can hold Shift while the left little finger presses A. Release Shift before continuing with lowercase letters. The goal is an accurate, repeatable movement.
Caps Lock may be useful for all-capitals text, but learning Shift is more versatile for ordinary sentences.
Try this practice routine
- Practise a capital letter with the opposite-hand Shift key.
- Type a short name slowly and return fingers to the home row.
- Check capitalization and accuracy before trying for speed.
Next step: Apply capital letters in full sentences. Short Sentences test →
