Choose the right Numpad typing test and understand your score
This test is designed for the calculator-style number pad at the right of a full keyboard. Use it after practising the 4–5–6 home position. Select a mode and duration before starting; the first keypad input starts the timer. If you stop typing long enough, the test pauses, so return to the activity to finish it.
Which test mode should you use?
- Digits: individual 0–9 keys for early confidence and finger accuracy.
- Decimals: amounts such as 75.40 to practise the decimal key.
- Real-world: dates, number groups and decimal amounts, closer to typical office records.
- Mixed Numpad: combines figures, decimal values and operators for broad keypad practice.
What do the results mean?
Keys/min (KPM) counts correct entered keys divided by active minutes; it is not the same as letters-per-minute or WPM. Accuracy compares correct inputs against all counted keypresses. Consistency reflects how evenly you type over time; it is not a qualification grade.
For a fair before-and-after comparison, repeat the same mode and duration. A 3-minute attempt is convenient for daily checks; 5- and 10-minute tests help you assess sustained number entry.
- Position your hand on 4, 5, 6 and confirm Num Lock on a physical keypad.
- Select one mode and type the three displayed lines using your keypad, keeping your eyes on the screen.
- Check KPM, accuracy, errors and consistency, then repeat missed movements in the course.
This is an online practice test, not an employer-issued 10-key certificate. If a job description asks for KPH or a supervised data-entry examination, confirm the required format with the employer. Learn more in our KPH and accuracy guide.
