What is a blank page for typing?

A blank page for typing is an empty online writing space with no supplied lesson sentence or paragraph. Instead of copying text shown by the typing tutor, you create the text yourself or read it from somewhere else. This makes the practice closer to everyday writing: composing an email, taking notes, drafting a letter, writing an assignment, recording an idea, or copying information from a printed page.

Learn first, then use real-world free typing.

If you still search visually for most keys, begin with the guided touch typing course. Once common key positions feel familiar, a blank typing page is a useful next step because your attention can move from “Where is the key?” to “What do I want to write?”

Blank page for typing practice without lesson text

Traditional typing tests give you a fixed passage. That is useful for measuring accuracy against a known answer, but it is not how all real typing works. On this page there is nothing to copy unless you choose Copy From Another Source. In Free Writing mode, your own thoughts become the text. This is useful for people who want to practise typing while thinking, reading, taking notes, or writing naturally without watching a lesson passage.

How Writing WPM is calculated

Writing WPM uses the common five-character definition of a typing “word”: new characters added during the measured session are divided by five and then divided by elapsed minutes. Because free writing includes thinking time, Writing WPM can be lower than a normal copy-typing test. That difference is meaningful: it separates real composition flow from the speed of reproducing a prepared passage.

Why there is no automatic accuracy score for free writing

Accuracy requires a correct reference. If you write an original sentence from your own mind, there is no external answer that the site can honestly compare it with. This page therefore reports corrections instead of inventing an accuracy percentage. When you choose Copy From Another Source, finish the session first and then paste the original into the comparison box to calculate a text-match score.

Blank page with timer, printing, PDF and TXT

You can use the page with no timer, or choose 1, 3, 5, 10 minutes, or a custom duration. The Print / Save PDF button opens the browser print workflow, which can also save the writing as a PDF where supported. Download TXT saves a simple text copy. These options cover common needs such as a blank page for typing online, typing and printing, quick letter drafting, and timed free-writing practice without turning the page into a complicated word processor.

Typing from a book, paper or another screen

Choose Copy From Another Source when you are reading and typing at the same time. You may read a printed document, a notebook, a book, or a second display. This is closer to transcription and note-copying than a normal lesson. After the session, use Compare With Original if you want a text-match result. Pasting is intentionally disabled inside the main typing area so the measured result reflects actual keyboard input.

Blank page for typing in Word

If you specifically need advanced Microsoft Word features such as styles, page layout, tracked changes, tables, or collaboration, use Word or another full document editor. This browser page is intentionally lighter: it is designed for immediate typing practice, writing-speed measurement, simple printing, and text export.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use this blank page without a timer?

Yes. Timer Off is the default. Start typing and finish whenever you are ready.

Can I use it as a blank page for typing a letter?

Yes. You can draft a plain-text letter, print it, save it as PDF through the browser print dialog, or download it as TXT. For advanced formatting, use a document editor.

Can I type without looking at the keyboard?

Yes. There is no supplied lesson text or on-screen keyboard here. If your specific goal is to train keyboard memory, also use the dedicated No-Look Typing Practice.

Does the site save what I write?

Local autosave is optional and enabled by default. The draft is stored in this browser, not in a TypingTutor.Online account. You can turn autosave off or discard the saved draft.
