A typing race built for real practice

Typing Race turns a normal passage exercise into a visible race. Instead of watching only a timer, you can see your position against several simulated opponents while your own car moves across the track. The goal is not simply to hit keys as quickly as possible. Every correct character moves you forward, while an incorrect character adds an error and leaves your racer in the same place until the correct key is typed. This keeps the game focused on useful typing speed rather than random key pressing.

The computer racers are intentionally imperfect. Their pace varies slightly during a race, so they do not look like four progress bars moving at exactly the same speed. Beginner, Balanced, Fast, and Pro opponent groups make it easy to choose the level that feels motivating. Adaptive opponents use your locally saved performance as a reference so the field can become more competitive as your typing improves.

Race your personal best

After you complete a race, TypingTutor.Online saves the result in your browser. When a previous best is available, the next race can include a ghost racer based on that performance. The ghost is not another person and no account is required. It represents the pace of your own best WPM, giving you a clear target for improvement without exposing your scores publicly.

Your completed Typing Race result also uses the same local Games progress system as the other TypingTutor.Online games. WPM, accuracy, errors, score, active time, and recent results can therefore appear with the rest of your game activity and local leaderboard information. Game activity supports practice and motivation, while formal certificate requirements continue to depend on qualifying lessons and typing tests.

Choose a useful race distance

Typing Race begins with a Standard passage that is intended to take around one minute for an average learner. Long, Endurance, and Marathon options increase the amount of text so you can work on sustained control for approximately two, three, or five minutes. These are passage targets rather than hard time limits: the race finishes when you complete the text, so slower typists still get to reach the finish line and faster typists can finish sooner.

For focused practice, choose Everyday English, Office & Business, School & Learning, or Technology passages. You can also select My Own Text and paste a passage of at least 80 characters. Custom text is processed only in the page for the current race and is not saved as part of your race history.

How to improve your race results

Start with an opponent group that lets you remain accurate. A lower finishing position with excellent accuracy can be more useful than winning while making many mistakes. Keep your hands relaxed, look ahead by a few words when possible, and maintain an even rhythm. Once you can complete Standard races comfortably, move to longer passages or faster opponents. The best improvement usually comes from combining competitive games with structured lessons, typing tests, and weak-key practice.
