CosmoKeys: space typing game for kids
This guide is open to everyone. Playing CosmoKeys requires an active Premium plan or a covered school account. View account and plan options.
Protect a planet one word at a time
The arena contains word meteors, so the challenge is both recognition and typing: choose a word you can finish, read it clearly and enter its letters in order. Completing the word removes that meteor. A shield shows how well the planet is protected, giving each rescue mission a visible goal beyond collecting points.
A mission reaches its science checkpoint after eight meteor words are completed. The question is part of the adventure rather than a typing-speed test. The timer pauses while the question is on screen. A correct answer opens the next mission, and you can retry an answer while learning the fact.
How to start a CosmoKeys mission
Launch the mission, then type a meteor word to begin the active timer. The opening launch does not consume typing time. Follow the selected word’s highlight and finish it before moving to another target. On a phone or tablet, use the typing field to open your device keyboard; on a computer, type with the physical keyboard.
Use Backspace when you need to edit your entry. The default mission has up to three minutes of active typing, and a round can end sooner if the shield is depleted. Pause to regain your place, or leave the tab to pause safely. Resume when you are ready to focus on the incoming words again.
Practise reading, accuracy and calm target selection
Before entering the first letter, look for a word that you recognise and can type steadily. Constantly switching attention between several meteors can make a short word harder than it needs to be. Completing one chosen target is a practical way to build a rhythm before attempting longer words.
Session difficulty progresses through ten steps across Beginner, Normal, Advanced and Adaptive stages. Movement and word choices provide variety, while adaptive pacing responds to practice performance. There is no need to chase a perfect score before trying again. Use your accuracy and errors to decide whether the next visit should emphasise precision or quicker recognition.
Space discoveries and progress between visits
The ten missions add a reason to return, with completed rescues, earned badges and saved discoveries recorded as career progress. These rewards belong to the game. They are not exam grades or evidence that a child has mastered all keyboard skills.
Progress is kept on this device and can sync through a connected personal or covered school account. CosmoKeys results appear in the existing game history and Kids activity records. For teachers or parents, a short discussion of the science checkpoint can complement the keyboard practice without turning the score into a competition between learners.
CosmoKeys questions
- Do I need Premium for CosmoKeys?
- Yes. Gameplay is included with an active Monthly, Yearly or covered school plan. This mission guide remains readable without a subscription.
- Why does the timer stop at a science question?
- The question is a learning checkpoint. The typing timer pauses so reading and answering do not use up active typing time.
- What happens if I answer incorrectly?
- You can retry the science answer. A correct answer unlocks the next rescue mission.
- Does CosmoKeys work on mobile?
- The game supports the device keyboard through its typing field. Screen size and keyboard layout affect the available arena space; a physical keyboard is useful for practising desktop touch typing.
